Wood floor progress. So to start my master bedroom I decided to try the skinny sticks flor method. I cut a sheet of paper that was to size and tried laying them out. I wanted a bit of a rough feel on this floor, so I didn’t try too hard to make them perfect.

I used the flowchart home decor wood tint to color the wood more grey.    

The stain looks awesome for a neutral tone in the room!
The next thing I wanted to create was a room divider. I cut out a template and painted it a neutral purple.
Then I trimmed it down until it fit. (oh yeah, I added molding back in!)


I added two layers of foam core behind the original template so it would have more thickness.
Then I added wooden shelves that would hold things, and started sanding and papering the sides and creating the cabinets. Stay tuned for more progress on my master bedroom!

So first thing to start with is painting. The blue is just way too bright for me, and felt a bit dated (though my own house is a similar shade of blue with brick and I love that.) So I started by going to Home Depot and getting a sample can of paint. The cans run about 3 dollars for a sample and are nice thick paint. This first picture shows me applying just a bit of paint, and the Home Depot Behr paint was able to cover up the blue in the first coat. Which was amazing, no priming or anything needed at all. Unfortunately the first color I got was too light so I had to go back and get sample second can that was a shade darker.


Here’s my first section painted. It felt good to make progress. 

Then I started on the front. In retrospect I should have covered the windows and shutters with painters tape right away. but I didn’t. I was planning on painting the windows and shutters anyway because they had yellowed, but I ended using acrylic for that and it took several coats.

I did eventually start using painters tape!

Here is most of it painted. I plan on doing the bricks at the bottom using the egg carton technique I found on Otterine’s Miniatures site, but currently I don’t have an empty one. So I eagerly started on the inside.

Hey Everyone! I'm making this first post because I'm entering The Undersized Urbanite contest! I recently purchased a dollhouse on craigslist from someone selling theirs because they were moving to Florida.

I love interior design, but have very little experience in miniatures except for polymer clay (which I'll post some of the cool things I've made in clay as well!)



I plan on making a lot of pieces for the competition, but my dollhouse came with a lot of furniture and small accessories that I plan on refinishing and making beautiful. I've also discovered an amazing miniatures store located within driving distance from my house.  Earth and Tree Minatures is amazing! They've got a great online catalogue but also have an incredible and gigantic store.... with a sale going on this weekend.

This is going to be a tough challenge because my dollhouse is BIG, and I'm going to be ambitious and plan on finishing the entire thing. Currently there is 3 floors. On the first floor there is an an entry way, living room, kitchen, garage. The second story has a landing, bathroom, master bedroom, and girls room. And the third floor is a large open space that is a game space and study/man cave, and boys bedroom. Some of that will stay the same, and some of it will change!

I'll be posting on here as I complete parts of the house, or get stuck and make mistakes.

So without further ado let me introduce you to my dollhouse, which isn't named yet. This is how it looked like when I picked it up (excuse the picture quality, I took these very quickly because I wanted to get started painting it right away.)



I was extremely surprised when I found out the doll house had electricity run through it. That was a giant bonus for me, since I've never wired a dollhouse. However, it had hard wired and outlets sticking out of everywhere instead of being thoughtfully put in. Also the power strip that runs to the transformer is broken, so hopefully I'll have working power after I get a new one.
